Notebook MultiBay

The Dell MultiBay for notebooks is shipped with
a MultiBay with hard drive installed.  Some
newer machines are hot swappable.  If yours
is not you must turn your notebook off before
installing MultiBay.

Install the MultiBay for

Extra Storage Only

You can use any

MultiBay

 drive for additional

storage.  Once the device is installed the
operating system recognizes the

MultiBay

 drive

as a hard drive attached to your system.  If
your system is hot swappable, then with the
notebook powered on, or off remove the CD-
ROM.  If your notebook is not hot swappable

turn your notebook off before removing CD-
ROM.  Insert the

MultiBay

 drive into the CD-

ROM slot, making sure it is securely in position.
If system is turned off, turn on now.  The
Windows

®

 98/ME/2000/XP operating systems

will recognize the new hardware and configure
the system accordingly.  No drivers are
required. Your

Multi Bay

 is now ready to use.

Removing the MultiBay

There are two options for safely removing the
Multibay:

Left click on the  PC-card icon in the Windows
task bar, and select stop standard IDE/ESDI
Disk Controller.  Wait for the “You may safely
remove this device” message to appear, before
removing the ABS.

Or if your machine is not hot swappable, simply
power off your notebook and then remove the
MultiBay.
