Front Suspension Components STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION
9.8. After the toe-in adjustment is made and with wheels in the straight ahead position, the steering wheel
should be at the center of its travel. There should be equal travel to the left and right.
FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS
See General Warnings on page 1-2.
TIE ROD END REMOVAL
1. Disable the vehicle.
2. Electric Vehicle: Disconnect the batteries and discharge the controller.
Gasoline Vehicle: Disconnect the battery and spark plug wire.
3. Loosen the jam nuts (1) (Figure 7-13) .

4. Remove the retaining nuts (2).
5. Lift the tie rod (3) from the hole in the spindle tab.
6. Remove the tie rod ends from the drag link.
7. Apply a light coat of anti-seize lubricating compound to the threads (4).
TIE ROD INSTALLATION
1. Install tie rod ends (3) onto the drag link (4) to a depth of 1/2 inch (12.5 mm) (Figure 7-14) .
WARNING
• The tie rod ends must be threaded into the rod at least 5/16 of an inch (8 mm). Failure to thread deep
enough may cause tie rod ends to separate from the rod during adjustment or while being operated,
possibly resulting in loss of vehicle control and severe personal injury.
