How Your Greensand Filter Works
Water enters the top of the tank
and flows down through the media
and up the distributor tube.
The Greensand Filter removes iron
and manganese as the water flows
through the greensand media.
During backwash the flow of water
is reversed and water flows down
the distributor tube and up through
the media, lifting and expanding the
Greensand Media.
The ‘brine cycle’ next draws in
potassium permanganate solution
and allows it slowly rinse through
the greensand filter media, cleaning
and restoring the greensand.
Next is a rapid rinse where the potassium permanganate is thoroughly washed out of the
filter. The final stage is a refill of the potassium permanganate tank.
