Battery Maintenance
IMPORTANT!
Electric vehicle batteries are heavy and awkward to handle.
Before you remove, service, or install a vehicle battery, care-
fully read the following recommendations and instructions.
Battery charging installations must be located in areas designated for that
purpose. These areas must be kept free of all nonessential combustible
materials.
Facilities must be provided for:
• Flushing spilled electrolyte.
• Fire protection.
• Protecting charging apparatus from damage by vehicles.
• Adequate ventilation for dispersal of fumes from gassing batteries.
• When handling acid concentrates greater than 50% acid (above
1.400 specific gravity), an eye wash fountain must be provided.
A conveyor, overhead hoist, or equivalent material handling equipment must
be provided for handling batteries.
