Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series ASA Services Module Installation Note

OL-23955-01

  Overview

Overview

The ASA Services Module, see

Figure 1

, is the next generation  Security Services blade for the

Catalyst 6500 series switch. The ASA Services Module is supported in any slot in the Catalyst 6500
E-series chassis. The ASA Services Module is not supported in non-E-series chassis. The ASA Services
Module requires either a Supervisor Engine 720-3B, Supervisor Engine 720-3BXL, or Supervisor
Engine 720-10GE (either a VS-S720-10G-3C or a VS-S720-10G-3CXL) to operate.

STATUS

Green—Both ASA Services module processors have
finished booting up, all diagnostics pass, and the module is
operational

Yellow—ROMMON is running; the ASA Services module
has not finished booting up

Red—The module is powering up or the ASA Services
Module has a fault.

ID

The ID LED functions as a service indicator. The blue LED
is turned on and off by the system administrator from the
switch console to aid the service personnel in identifying
which ASA Services Module within a chassis needs
attention. When turned on, the LED flashes on and off at
500 msec intervals.
