Additional Items

In addition to your DTA50, the package you purchased from your service provider
contains two additional items: two hook-and-loop mounting squares and an IR Extender.

The mounting squares allow you to attach the DTA50 unit to a television. The IR Extender
allows you to place your DTA50 in an unobtrusive location, such as a cabinet, and control
your DTA50 with a remote control.

These items are packaged in the carton in which your DTA50 was shipped.

Installing the DTA50

1. Unplug all electronic devices before connecting the adapter.

2. Connect the adapter to the coaxial cable coming in from the wall.

3. Connect a coaxial cable from the adapter to your TV.

4. Slide the switch to channel 3 or channel 4 based on the channel your service provider

uses.

5. Plug the DC cord from the external power supply into the adapter.

6. Plug the adapter’s external power supply and the TV into an AC power source.

7. If you purchased an approved IR Extender from your service provider, read and follow

the installation instructions for the IR Extender. The IR Extender and its installation
instructions should be in the carton in which your DTA50 adapter was shipped.

8. Press the

POWER

 key on the remote control.

Mounting the DTA50 to a TV with Optional Hook-and-Loop
Squares

1. Remove one of the two optional hook-and-loop mounting squares from the carton

Connecting an Optional IR Extender to the DTA50

The IR Extender, if packaged with your DTA50, allows you to install your DTA50 in an
unobtrusive location, such as a cabinet, and control your DTA50 with a remote control.

Safety First

Before using this adapter read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS section of
this guide.

Avoid Screen Burn-In

Images such as letterbox bars or side bars, bright closed-captioning backgrounds, station
logos, or any other stationary images may cause the TV screen to age unevenly and cause
damage to your TV. Refer to the user guide that came with your TV for more information
about screen burn-in.

Performance Tips

If the adapter does not perform as expected, the following tips may help.

No picture

•  Verify that the power to your TV is turned on.

•  If the adapter is plugged into a wall switch, verify the switch is in the ON position.

(Avoid plugging into an outlet that is controlled by a wall switch.)

•  Verify that all cables are properly connected.

•  The current channel may not be available in your service package. Try selecting another

channel to see if a picture appears.

No color

•  Verify the current TV program is broadcast in color.

•  Adjust the TV color controls.

No sound

•  Verify the volume is turned up.

•  Verify the mute function is not on.

2. Peel the paper backing from the loop tape on the mounting square you selected.

3. Press and hold the mounting square against the bottom of the DTA50 until the square

forms a secure bond.

4. Repeat steps 2 – 3 for the other mounting square.

5. Peel the paper backing from the hook fastener on each of the mounting squares.

6. Press and hold the mounting squares to the top or back of your television until the

squares form a secure bond.

1. Plug the connector into the IR port on the back of the DTA50.

2. Peel the paper backing from the adhesive pad on the bottom of the receiver.

Then, mount the IR Extender receiver in an inconspicuous place, but make
certain that nothing blocks the sensor on the front of the receiver. You must be
able to point the remote control at this sensor.

To control the DTA50, press the keys on the remote control while aiming the

remote control at the sensor on the receiver.

Note

: If you encounter problems, make sure that all connections are secure and

that nothing blocks the path between the receiver and your remote control.
For further assistance, contact your service provider.

Important:

Do not block

the sensor on the front
of the receiver, or you
cannot control the DTA50
with your remote control.

  Place the sensor away

from compact fl uorescent
light, plasma TV displays,
or LCD HDTVs. The
sensor signal may be
blocked when placed too
close to these types
of devices, and the
remote control will no
longer function properly.
