Chapter 23 Configuring BXM Virtual Switch Interface
Understanding MPLS VC Merge
uninterrupted sequence when it goes out after merging. Cells from one AAL5 frame cannot be
intermingled with cells from another AAL5 frame on the same VC. Several AAL5 frames can arrive on
different VCs and are merged onto a single VC without interleaving the frames.
VC Merge is responsible for processing any incoming VSI messages from the MPLS controller and
identifies the merging request. VC-merge is enabled by filling at least 1023 VSI channels on any
interface on the card. The Label Switch Controller (LSC) controls the limit of merged VCs you can have.
Both without VC Merge and with VC Merge examples are shown in Figure 23-11.

VC Merge Characteristics
The following are the characteristics of VC Merge:
•
Connections are unidirectional.
•
Each merge is done in egress direction.
•
All merged connections use the same service type.
•
Single-end point connections are not supported.
•
VC-merge connections can be added or deleted individually.
•
OAM cells are not supported for VC-merge connections.
•
Only the Virtual Channel Connection (VCC) is merged.
•
Merging Virtual Path Connections (VPC) is not supported.
•
Both interslave and intraslave connections are allowed.
•
tagABR for the MPLS controller is not supported.
