Inlet Drive System
Use the illustration (Figure 5-18) and picture
(Figure 5-19) below to identify the mechanical
components of the inlet drive system.
The inlet motor (Figure 5-18/19, A) powers
he inlet drive system. A shaft from this motor
extends directly into a drive pulley (B).

This pulley drives a belt (C) which powers
both the lower (D) and upper (F) inlet ribbon
drive pulleys. An idler pulley (E) is included in
the drive chain so that pulleys D and F turn in
opposite directions.
A shaft (Figure 5-19, G) extends through
pulley D. Attached to this shaft is a drive roll (H),
and two idler rolls (1, 2) which will be discussed
later in this section.
A shaft (I) also extends through pulley F.
Attached to this shaft are two pulleys (J, K) which
transmit power to the first set of twist belts (L, M).
These belts together power another set of pulleys
(N, O) mounted on jackshafts (P, Q).
A second set of pulleys (R, S) on jackshaft
P, Q power the second set of twist belts (T, U).
These belts transmit power to the pneumatically
controlled brake-clutch mechanisms (V, W)
which control two drive rolls (3, 4) which press
against the idler rolls 1 and 2.
Not shown in this illustration is a pneumatically
controlled idler roll which presses against drive
roll H. These rolls work together with rolls 1, 2,
3 and 4 to help pull flatwork into the machine.
