Parking Brake
To apply the parking brake, pull the lever all the way up.
The park brake light will come on when the parking
brake is applied. See Brake System Warning Light on
page 3-27 for more information. Then shift the
transmission to NEUTRAL for a manual transmission or
PARK (P) for an automatic transmission. The vehicle
must be stationary when applying the parking brake,
except while burnishing the parking brake linings. See
Propshaft Brake Burnish Procedure on page 2-18
for more information.
If your parking brake does not hold the vehicle when
applied, see your dealer to adjust your parking
brake properly.
To release the parking brake, first push down the
regular brake pedal. Then, while pressing in the release
button, push the parking brake lever all the way down
and shift the transmission to NEUTRAL. The park brake
light will stay on if the parking brake is not fully
released.
Notice: Driving with the parking brake on can
overheat the brake system and cause premature
wear or damage to brake system parts. Verify that
the parking brake is fully released and the brake
warning light is off before driving.
