All 10-30 series models are identified by the model
system shown in the ch a rt on the following page.
Basically the designation consists o f 7 characters, 2
letters followed by live numbers. The first letter indicates
a model and the second identifies the chassis type. The
first n u m b e r designates the G V W range, the second and
third identify the cab-to-axle dim ension or model type
and the last two identify the cab or body style.

A N D R A T IN G PLATE
A c om bination vehicle identification num ber and
rating plate used on all models (fig. 0A-1) is located on
the left door lock pillar o f C-K-G models. On Forward
Control models, it is attached to the dash and toe panel.
T he vehicle identification n u m b e r stam ped on the
plate decodes into the info rm a tio n shown in Figure 0A-

E N G IN E N U M B E R
The engine n u m b e r indicates m a nufa c turing plant,
m o nth an d day o f m anufacture, an d transmission type.
A typical engine n u m b e r would be F1210TFA, which
would breakdow n thus:

F o r the convenience o f service technicians and
engineers w hen writing up certain business papers such
as W a rra n ty Reports. Product Inform ation Reports, or
reporting product failures in any way, the location of the
various unit num bers have been indicated. These unit
n um bers and their prefix or suffix are necessary on these
papers for various reasons - such as accounting, follow-
up on production, etc.
T he prefixes on certain units identify the plant in
which the unit was m a n u fa c tu red and thereby permits
p ro p e r follow-up o f the plant involved to get corrections
m ade w hen necessary.
Always include the prefix in the number.

Axles
C h e v ro le t B uilt
• On 10 Series, the Code is stamped on Front of
Right Rear Axle Tube.
• On 20-30 Series, the Code is stam ped on U ppe r
Surface of the Right Rear Axle Tube.
D ana Built
• On F ront Axles, code is stamped on Front
Surface o f Left Axle Tube.
• On R e a r Axles, code is stam ped on R e a r Surface
o f Right Axle Tube.
Transmissions
• On 3-Speed Transmissions (except Tremec), the
Unit N u m b e r is located on Lower Left Side o f Case
Adjacent to R e a r o f Cover.
• On Tremec Transmissions, Unit N u m b e r is
located on U p p e r Forward M ounting Flange o f Case.
• On 70 mm 4-Speed Transmissions, Unit N u m b e r
is stamped on U ppe r C enter F ro n t o f Case. O n Borg
W a rn e r 4-Speeds, U nit N u m b e r is located on Left Side
of Case Rearward o f Side Cover. Muncie 4-Speeds, Unit
N u m b e r is located on R e a r Face o f Case below Retainer.
• On Turbo Hydra-M atic 350 Transmission, Unit
N u m b e r is Located on Right R ear Vertical Surface o f
Oil Pan.
• On the Turbo H ydra-M atic 400 Transmission,
Serial N u m b e r is Located on the Light Blue Plate on the
Right Side o f the Transmission.
Engines
• 6-Cylinder Engine U nit N u m b e r Located on Pad
at Right H and Side of Cylinder Block at R ear o f
Distributor.
• 8-Cylinder Engine U nit N u m b e r Located on Pad
at Front, Right H and Side o f Cylinder Block.
G enerators
G e n e ra to r U nit Serial N u m b e r is located on the
Drive End F ra m e Below the Part N um ber.
Batteries
Battery Code N u m b e r is Located on Cell Cover Top
o f Battery.
