RAP 2.37 Left and Right Clamp Cylin-
ders
Outputs 15 & 29
Whenever the top of a book is trimmed, air pres-
sure to the left clamp cylinder is turned off and
air pressure to the right clamp cylinder is turned
on. Whenever the bottom of a book is trimmed,
the opposite is true. Whenever the face of the
book is trimmed, air pressure to both the left and
right cylinders is turned on. Air pressure to the
center clamp cylinder is always turned on.
Possible Fault Indicators

Air pressure to the left clamp cylinder
does not turn off while trimming the top
of a book, causing the clamp to come
down too far on the left side during a cut
(sometimes causing excessive creasing
in the book spine).

Air pressure to the right clamp cylinder
does not turn off while trimming the bot-
tom of a book, causing the clamp to
come down too far on the right side dur-
ing a cut (sometimes causing excessive
creasing in the book spine).
Initial Actions
Check for loose or broken wires 70 and 114 at
the power panel.
Check that the wire connectors for valve number
13 are connected properly.
Procedure
1. Manually activate valve number 13 by press-
ing the 13A actuator button (Figure 2-60).
Repeat with the 13B actuator button. Does
the valve activate in both cases?
Y N
Disconnect main power and replace valve
number 13 (PL 5.21 Pneu. Manifold Asm.
59012-1).
2. Electrically activate valve number 13 by
shorting wire 70 to 74 on the main PWB. Re-
peat only this time shorting wire 114 to 74.
Does the valve activate in both cases?
Y N
Disconnect main power and replace valve
number 13 (PL 5.21 Pneu. Manifold Asm.
59012-1).
3. Disconnect main power and replace the
main PWB (REP 4.22 Main PWB Replace-
ment).
