CENTRALDS  CDS-5D  USER  GUIDE

Characteristics of the modified camera

CDS-5D  are  modified  versions  of  Canon’s  general  purpose  DSLR  cameras.     Some

of   original   features   of   the   Canon   camera   are   removed   and   new   features   such   as
TEC   cooling   and   general   purpose   Drop-In   filter   holder   are   added   for   high   quality
astrophotography.  Followings  are  the  differences  made  by  the  modification.

!

1.

The   low   pass   filter   attached   to   the

image   sensor   is   removed   and   a   MC

coated   Hoya   clear   filter   transmitting

visible   light   and   infrared   light   is

mounted.

2.

Because   the   low   pass   filter   is

removed,   image   blurring   can   occur

due   to   chromatic   aberration   on   the

infrared  lights  recorded  on  the  sensor

so   the   image   sharpness   can   suffer.

This   is   more   pronounced   in   the

images   taken   with   refraction   optics

than  reflection  optics.

3.

We   recommend   you   use   UV/IR   cut

filter,  light  pollution  filter  and  deep  sky

filter  at  the  same  time  while  imaging.

4.

photography   by   mounting   a   visible

light   blocking   /   infrared   transmitting

filter  such  as  a  Hoya  R72  filter.

5.

Various   2”   imaging   filters   or   52mm

filters  can  be  mounted  in  the  Drop-In

filter  holder.

6.

The  lens  mount  does  not  have  the  communication  point  so  the  auto  focus,  lens  information  recording

and   pulse   signal   transfer   for   ultrasonic   motor   operation   which   are   based   on   the   communication

between  the  camera  body  and  the  lens  are  disabled  even  when  a  Canon  lens  is  used.

7.

You  always  have  to  focus  lenses  manually.     Some  lenses  (200mm  F1.8L)  need  power  from  the

body  for  manual  focusing  and  you  cannot  focus  these  lenses  even  manually  when  they  are  mounted

on  CDS-5D.

8.

Do not update canon’s 5D Mark III firmware to CDS-5D

.  It’ll  caused  the  hardware  Errors.

9.

Camera   was   set   to   [Image   Auto   Rotation/OFF,   ISO   expansion/ON,   Auto   Power   save/   OFF]   and

other  settings  can’t  be  changed.

10.

CDS-5D  is  designed  only  for  B-shutter  mode  and  you  can’t  set  shutter  speed.

11.

If  the  USB  or  power  cable  is  disconnected  when  camera  control  software  is  starting  or  closing,  the

communication  Error  or  Err1  may  be  occurred.

12.

When  you  meet  these  errors,  please  remove  USB  and  power  cable  from  camera.  Then  3minutes

later  connect  USB  cable  and  power  cable.
