Network Variables
The WattNode meter uses

interoperable SNVTs (Standard Network Variable Type) and
is programmed with self-documentation information. It is supplied with an external interface file
(XIF), which defines all of the network variables and transceiver parameters. The XIF file may be
requested by network management software during installation and is particularly useful if you
wish to configure the network software for a meter before physically installing it.
WattNode meter network variable names are prefixed with three letters indicating the type:
●
nvi
- Input to the meter, but may also be read.
●
nvo
- Output from the meter.
●
nci
- Configuration network variable; normally inputs to the meter, but may be read to deter-
mine the current configuration. Configuration variables are preserved during power outages.
Authentication
For installations where the WattNode will be used for billing, the network variables
nviTimeSet
,
nciCtAmps
,
nviResetEnergy
,
nviResetPkDemand
,
nciDemPerMins
, and
nciDemSubints
should be protected from unauthorized tampering. The LonTalk protocol supports authentication
to prevent unauthorized access for specified variables. You must enable authentication with your
network management software. Once protected, the authentication key is required to access
these variables, so be sure to record the key securely.
