To configure device-level parameters:
1.
On the Main Configuration Page, select
Device Level Configuration
(see
), and then press ENTER.
2.
On the
Device Level Configuration
page, select values for the device-level
parameters shown in
. The available parameters vary depending
on whether you are using a 25Gb, 40Gb, or a 100Gb adapter. To use Smart
Auto Negotiation, select
SmartAN
, the default, for the
Link Speed
.

The
Link Speed
you choose applies to both adapter ports. The link speed
and the forward error correction (FEC) must match that of the connected
switch or device port, unless Cavium FastLinQ SmartAN™ mode is used.
SmartAN
sets the port link speed to use Smart Auto Negotiation.
SmartAN is a feature in the 45000 Series Adapter that provides the
ability to automatically set up a link between the adapter and the switch
over DAC or optical media without user intervention or manual setup.
The IEEE standards do not provide a standards-based method to
auto-negotiate between a 10G switch and a 25G adapter. Cavium’s
SmartAN provides an automatic and convenient method to detect the
switch and to determine and set the link speed, FEC types, media type
and length, and so on. Although SmartAN is most useful for
connectivity with a 10G switch and for determining the type of
transceiver that is inserted in the adapter cage, it is also useful for a
wider set of connectivity use cases. SmartAN is the factory default link
speed on the 45000 Series Adapters, but you can select any of the
other values in the HII console.
Auto Negotiated
is the IEEE Auto Negotiation defined in the
standards. It specifies that dual-port 25Gb adapters, single or dual-port
40Gb adapters, and single-port 100Gb adapters auto-negotiate
available speeds and link parameters (FEC, Pause) over DAC
connections. (For information about available link speeds and optical
connections, see the driver
Release Notes
.) FEC is negotiated in
