gas to accumulate inside the cabin, under protective
weather coverings or in the cockpit when the yacht is
underway. See
Provide adequate ventilation when the canvas
top, side or back curtains are in the closed,
protective positions. Open forward hatch or
window.

IDENTIFYING CO EXPOSURE
In high concentrations, CO can be fatal in minutes.
However, the effects of lower concentrations can also be
lethal. Symptoms of exposure to CO are:
• Watering and itchy eyes
• Throbbing temples
• Inability to think coherently
• Ringing in the ears
• Headache
• Incoherence/slurred speech
• Flushed appearance
• Inattentiveness
• Loss of physical coordination
• Tightness across the chest
• Drowsiness
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Vomiting
• Fatigue
• Collapse
• Convulsions
TREATING CO EXPOSURE
If someone is possibly suffering from CO exposure, take
the following actions immediately:
• Thoroughly ventilate the area if possible.
• Evacuate the area and move the affected person(s)
to a fresh-air environment.
• Administer oxygen, if available.
• Get medical assistance.
• Determine the probable source of the CO and
correct the condition.
