You should use the platen glass when 
copying bound originals (such as books and 
magazines), heavy or lightweight originals, 
and transparencies. (See "Paper Selection," 
on p. 2-37.)

NOTE
The machine automatically detects the size 
of the following originals: 11" x 17", LGL, 
LTR, LTRR, and STMTR/A3, B4, A4, A4R, 
B5, B5R, A5, and B6.
