Subsection 04 (REAR SUSPENSION)
– Dents
– Abnormal wear.
Check piston rod for:
– Straightness
– Wear
– Nicks
– Burrs.
Remove
SPRING
, see procedure in this section.
Secure the shock absorber body end in a vise with
its rod upward.
Fully compress piston rod. When released, it
should extend smoothly.

Pay attention to the following conditions that will
denote a defective shock absorber:
– A skip or a hang back when reversing stroke at
mid travel.
– Seizing or binding condition except at extreme
end of either stroke.
– Oil leakage.
– A gurgling noise, after completing one full com-
pression stroke.
Replace shock absorber if any fault is present.
Shock Absorber Installation
For installation,
reverse removal procedures.
However pay attention to the following.
Before installing the shock absorber upper bolt,
check condition of O-rings. Replace as required.

Apply dielectric grease (P/N 293 550 004) on
O-rings.
SPRING
Spring Removal
WARNING
– Rear shock absorber is pressurized.
– An explosion may occur if heated or punc-
tured.
– Do not disassemble reservoir or shock
body.
Remove shock absorber. See procedure above.
Install shock absorber in a vise.
CAUTION: Use a vice with soft jaws (rubber,
plastic or brass) to avoid damaging shock ab-
sorber surface.
Unscrew both adjusting nuts completely.
