Issue date: 20/09/2011

centred within the fireplace and parallel to the
FRONT edge of the hearth / lintle. If the back
edge of the flue on the gather cannot be
positioned directly underneath the back edge
of the chimney flue, connectors will be
required to make the connection. Maximm
angle should be 45 degrees for any such
connections.

48.

Once the components to connect the gather
to the  chimney are estabilshed pull the fire
forward.

       Connect the fire:

49.

The FEMALE  spigot on the gather has an
inside dimension of approx 200mm to fit a
round converter. A convertor will be required
to join this size to the size of the chimney flue
(nominally 225mm) and are available from
flue liner manufacturers.

50.

Insert the flue liner up the chimney and move
the fire box / gather back into the fire until it
lines up with the liner and drops over the
spigot on the top of the flue gather. The
connector should rest inside the spigot.

51.

Check the fire box is centred in the fireplace
and the front face is parrallel with the front
edge of the hearth or lintle.

52.

Seal the joint into the chimney and onto the
flue gather using  fire clay / rope / clamps.

53.

Offer up the dog grate to the front of the fire
and locate using the bolts provided through
the holes in the edges of the fire.

54.

Ensure the feet of the dogs are resting on the
hearth and the grate is in line with the rest of
the fire. On an uneven hearth some
adjustment may be required to make the dog
grate look right. Oversize holes are provided
for this reason.

       Attach canopy:

55.

Offer the canopy up to the fire again by
springing the back face open to go over the
front and back clamp plates. Hook the top of

the canopy behind the lintle as you do this
taking care not to damage the front face of
the canopy.

56.

The canopy will rest on the front clamp plate
uprights.

57.

Pull the canopy forward until the rear folds
touch the rear clamp plate. Attach using the
fittings provided.

58.

Stand back from the fire and adjust the
position of the canopy until the front edge
looks correct in context of the rest of the fire,
the hearth and the fireplace itself.

59.

Check the lower edge of the canopy on both
sides. This should be parrallel with the hearth.
If not the fixings on the rear edge of the
canopy may need to be lowered or raised.

60.

Check that there is a suitable gap to the rear
face of the fireplace to allow hot air behind
the canopy to enter the room easily.

61.

If the lintle allows, ensure there is a 100mm
gap between the top of the canopy to the
register plate / bottom of the cast chimney
base. Again this is to allow hot air behind the
canopy to escape freely into the room.

Dress / clean the fire:

62.

The fire and grates will have been painted and
graphite paste applied before delivery.  As
such these should just need touching up and
brushing lightly to highlight features. DO NOT
brush up every face of the fire. The top heat
exchange exits in particular are intended to
remain matt black to reduce their visual
impact.

63.

If a polished steel canopy is supplied this will
need lightly re-polishing with a carbon paste
impregnated brush. Copper or brass canopies
will simply need polishing with brasso or
similar as will any brass or bronze features on
dog irons etc.
