RESETS
The factory presets in the DSPX are not supposed to be de-facto standards by any means but are starting points
for you to create your own user presets. It is impossible to create presets that will suit every format and market.
What is right for one market is not usually right for another. The staff at BW will be able to help you refine your
sound further if none of the factory presets meet your requirement.
V3 contains the following factory presets.
FM PRESETS
. These presets are optimised for FM use and most rely on high settings of the ‘HF CLIPPING’
control to maintain brightness through HF distortion controlled clipping. The look-ahead shelf control is usually
set to lower numbers to compensate for the high level of HF introduced by pre-emphasis. This prevents the DR
outputs from sounding too bright when the processor is being used in a dual processing capacity.
F1 BYPASS
This preset force gates the AGC’s setting them to unity gain. The limiter and clipper thresholds are raised and
drives are appropriately set so that the peak input to the DSPX matches the peak output of the DSPX.
F2 CHR
This preset enhances the bass and treble and provides a good starting point for pop music formats in com-
petitive markets.
F3 CRANKED
Everything wound up. A packed smashed sound, if thats what your after?
F4 ROCK
Nice presence.
F5 HOT ROCK
A pleasing and exciting mix of bass and HF when you need greater loudness than the HOT preset.
F6 HOT
Nice balance of bass and treble.
F7 HOT AC
Tamed down HOT preset, added warmth, works well on AC formats.
F8 SOFT AC
More presence than the HOT AC preset and cleaner softer bass due to the bass clipper being set to soft.
F9 CLASSICAL
More gating and band coupling prevent excessive while allowing gentle re-equalisation, preserving the tonal
balance of the source material.
F10 SPORT TALK
Higher gating threshold, to prevent ambience noise swelling.
F11 URBAN
Bass, lots of it. The highs are tamed a little to accommodate the level of bass.
F12 AC
A nice balance for lighter formats where loudness is not everything.
DR PRESETS
. These presets are optimised for digital radio (DR) use. Lower levels of HF clipping are used than
in the FM presets and the lookahead ‘SHELF’ control is set less aggresively as it does not have to compensate
for the HF boost generated by pre-emphasis.
F13 DR BASS
Bass and a consistent balance of mid and high frequencies.
F14 DR LIGHT PROC
A light and airy preset that is a good starting point for stations that want to sound loud but not at the expense
of clarity.
F15 DR MEDIUM PROC
A step up from the light processing preset.
F16 DR NATURAL
A nice balance of mids and highs provide a nice pleasing natural sound. Vocals stand out in the mix.
F17 DR PRESENCE
The vocals are brought to the front of the mix with this pleasing mid enhanced preset.
