Figure 1. Windscreen Removal
See Figure 1. Remove the stock windscreen (1) by pulling it
loose from the flyscreen (2). Pull sharply at the upper (3) and
lower (4) mounting pins to release it from the flyscreen.
INSTALLATION
NOTE
See Figure 2. The windscreen (1) upper mounting locations
use mounting pins (2) (Factory installed in windscreen) and
the lower two mounting locations use fasteners. It will be
necessary to remove the flyscreen in order to properly install
the new windscreen.
1.
Remove the six screws (C) from the flyscreen and
flyscreen from motorcycle. Place flyscreen face down
on a clean soft surface to prevent scratching or damage.
NOTE
The windscreen
MUST
be installed to the flyscreen while
both components are off the motorcycle. The lower fasteners
can not be installed if flyscreen is left installed on the
motorcycle.
2.
See Figure 2. Install the new windscreen (1) by pushing
the upper mounting pins (2) into place. Verify upper
mounting pins on windscreen locate properly into upper
mounting grommets (B) of flyscreen (A).
3.
Aligned the lower flyscreen and windscreen holes. For
the left and right side lower holes, insert finish washer
(5) and spacer (6) onto the screw (4) and place through
the windscreen, grommet, and flyscreen holes.
4.
From the inside of the flyscreen, place washer (7) onto
screw (4) and thread lock nut (8) onto screw. Tighten
screw to 25-30
in-lbs
(2.8-3.4 Nm).
5.
Install flyscreen (A) (with windscreen attached) using 6
screws removed earlier. Tighten screws to 10-12
in-lbs
(1.1-1.4 Nm).
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
NOTICE
Polycarbonate windscreens/windshields require proper
attention and care to maintain. Failure to maintain
polycarbonate properly can result in damage to the
windscreen/windshield. (00483d)
•
Do not use benzene, paint thinner, gasoline or any
other
type
of
harsh
cleaner
on
the
windscreen/windshield. Doing so will damage the
surface.
•
Do not clean Lexan in hot sun or high temperature.
•
Powdered, abrasive or alkaline cleanser will damage
the windscreen/windshield.
•
Sunlight reflections off of the inside curvature of a
windscreen/windshield can, at certain times of the
day, cause extreme heat build-up on motorcycle
instruments. Exercise care in parking. Park facing the
sun, place an opaque object over the instruments, or
adjust the windscreen/windshield to avoid reflections.
•
Do not use benzene, paint thinner, gasoline or any
other cleaning agents on the rubber bushings. Doing
so will damage the bushing surfaces.
NOTE
Covering the windshield with a clean, wet cloth for about 15
minutes before washing will make dried bug removal easier.
