GEARCASE

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL AND 
INSTALLATION

Removal

Remove cotter pin and nut, and all propeller hard-
ware from the gearcase.

Inspect the condition of the propeller hub.

Loosen the clutch rod lock nut. Unscrew the clutch
rod connector to separate the clutch rod from the
shift rod.

Remove four gearcase retaining screws.

Remove gearcase from the exhaust housing and
place in a suitable holding fixture.

WARNING

To prevent accidental starting while ser-
vicing, twist and remove all spark plug
leads.

During service, the outboard may drop
unexpectedly. Avoid personal injury;
always support the outboard’s weight with
a suitable hoist or the tilt support bracket
during service.
