How to Clean and Care for the Microsoft Surface Pro
General Cleaning Recommendations
To clean the Surface Pro, use a soft lint‑free cloth (microfiber cloths work well) dampened with a little bit of mild soap and water, or screen
wipes. Clean every 3 to 6 months or whenever needed.
Important:
Do not apply liquids directly to the Surface Pro.
Battery Health
The rechargeable battery within the Surface Pro will wear out eventually. Perform the following to maintain battery health:
•
Once a month, let the battery drain below halfway before charging it.
•
Avoid keeping the Surface Pro plugged in 24/7.
•
Store the Surface Pro in a cool, dry room when it is not being used.
If the Surface Pro will be stored for an extended period of time, charge it to 50% every six months to ensure it stays rechargeable.
Touchscreen Care
Scratches, finger grease, dust, chemicals, and ultraviolet light can affect the performance of the touchscreen. Perform the following to help
protect the touchscreen:
•
Clean frequently.
The Surface Pro touchscreen is coated to make it easier to clean. Use a soft, lint‑free cloth (either dry or dampened
with water or eyeglass cleaner) or a screen cleaning wipe to gently wipe the screen.
Note:
Do not use glass or other chemical cleaners to clean the screen.
•
Keep out of the sun.
Do not leave the Surface Pro in direct sunlight for a long time. Ultraviolet light and excessive heat can damage
the display.
•
Keep covered.
Close the cover when taking the Surface Pro with you, or if you are not using the Surface Pro.
Power Cord Care
The power cord can be weakened or damaged if repeatedly twisted or bent in the same spot. Perform the following to prevent damage to the
power cord.
•
Avoid twisting or pinching the power cord.
•
Do not wrap the cord too tightly, especially around the power brick. Instead, wrap the power cord using loose coils rather than tight
Figure 1.

•
Inspect the power cord regularly, especially where it joins the power brick.
