Steering and ignition
lock
Keys
Two main keys and one emer-
gency key are provided with the
vehicle. The emergency key fea-
tures a light, compact design, al-
lowing it to be carried in a wallet,
etc. This key is intended for use
when no main key is immediately
available, and is not suitable for
continuous use.
The ignition lock, tank lock and
seat lock are operated with the
same key.
with Vario case OA
with Topcase OA
The cases and the Topcase can
also be ordered with locks for
the same key on request. Please
contact a specialist service fa-
cility for this purpose, preferably
an authorized BMW Motorrad re-
tailer.
Switching on ignition
Turn key to position 1 .
Parking light, low-beam head-
light and all function circuits are
switched on.
Engine can be started.
Pre-ride check is performed.

ABS self-diagnosis is

Switching off ignition
Turn key to position 2 .
Light switched off.
Handlebars not locked.
Key can be removed.
Locking steering lock with
parking light
If the motorcycle is on the
side stand, the surface
of the ground will determine
whether it is better to turn the
handlebars to the left or right.
However, the motorcycle is more
stable on a level surface with the
handlebars turned to the left than
