INSTALLING THE WOOFERS IN FACTORY LOCATIONS
Most of today’s newer cars have speaker grilles which blend in aesthetically with the interior of the
car. The grille is usually held in with small screws or spring clips. To remove a clipped on grille,
gently
up on the side with a flat blade screwdriver. (Some grilles are an integral part of the
door such that the entire door panel must be removed to expose the speaker.) Once the factory
speaker is exposed, remove the hardware and replace the factory unit with the new Blaupunkt
unit.
INSTALLING THE WOOFERS IN NON-FACTORY LOCATIONS
If you choose to install your new Blaupunkt speakers in locations other than the factory locations
make certain the new location is clear of obstructions in front of (e.g., armrests, window cranks)
and behind the speaker (e.g., door wiring, sheet metal).
Once the location is chosen, carefully cut the hole (using the cutout sizes at the back of the
manual), install the crossover in a convenient location, route and connect all wires, mount the
speaker, install the grille, and reinstall any panels and/or factory components.
DOOR MOUNTING
Door locations are most often favored because
of the tonal quality and imaging advantages
they provide compared to the typical dash
locations. Unfortunately the woofer is forced
into the very bottom of most doors because of
space constraints.
This low woofer installation creates a dilemma
because the tweeter should be kept close to
the woofer to maintain a unified sound field but
this often places the tweeter firing into the legs
of the passengers therefore high frequencies
are lost. If the tweeter is too high (at the top of
the door) the listener is overwhelmed with high
frequencies and the
balance is
damaged; therefore accurate imaging is lost.
Optimally, a balance must be achieved with
location which can often be found with the
tweeter just above knee
in most
automobiles. This will provide good frequency
response and imaging
REAR DECK MOUNTING
Rear deck or sail panel installations are easily
accommodated with these speakers since the
woofers can often drop into factory holes or
may require a simple adaptor plate which can
be purchased or formed from wood.
The surface mount tweeter assembly does not
require any significant holes so a factory look
can be maintained in most cases.
