SECTION 15: SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: Ne
v
er use the heater as a support for
ladders or other access equipment. Al
w
ays test for gas
soundness
w
ith a suitable detection fluid after completing
any ser
v
icing or exchange of gas carrying component.
On completion of any ser
v
ice/fault finding tasks
w
hich
require the breaking and remaking of electrical
connections, the checks:- A: Earth Continuity, B: Polarity
and C: Resistance to Earth must then be repeated.
15.1 Annual Procedure
Carry out the follo
w
ing procedure annually. The preferred
time
w
ould be immediately before the
w
inter heating
period. If
v
ery dirty conditions arise, it may be necessary
to carry out this procedure more often. If the unit takes in
air through an air duct or filter assembly, more frequent
ser
v
ice may be necessary.
15.1.1 Burner and Fan Removal
Isolate the heater from the gas and electrical supplies.
Remo
v
e the fan plug from the burner. Unscre

the
securing scre
w
s on the burner flange. The burner can
no

ed. Take care not to disturb the gasket on
the flanged burner tube. Unscre

ed.
15.1.2 Burner and Fan Removal Maintenance
Remo
v
e the fan and burner independently to floor le

el
and clean both items internally using a soft brush and
compressed air, if a
v
ailable. Take care not to damage the
internal parts of the burner. Check fan impeller for
cleanliness and free rotation.
The electrodes are an integral part of the burner. To
check spark gap, remo
v
e the securing scre
w
s on the
electrode and
w
ithdra
w
it ensuring the gasket is not
damaged. Spark gap on electrode should be
approximately 3 mm.
15.1.3 Tube and Reflector Maintenance
With burner and fan remo
v
ed, clean the outer surfaces of
the tubes using a brush and
w
ipe the inner surface of the
reflector
w
ith a soft damp cloth - use a household
detergent if necessary. Ne
v
er use abrasi

Gaskets
During annual ser
v
ice, all gaskets, as indicated
on Page
68, Section 17
, must be inspected for cuts, misalignment
or dryness. All round rubber gaskets, sealing the scre
w
holes, must be replaced in three year inter
v
als or earlier
as needed. All other gaskets must be replaced e
v
ery fi

years or earlier as needed.
Old gaskets must be remo
v
ed completely before installing
the ne
w
gasket. When replacing gaskets on scre
w
s,
ensure that the scre
w
s are not o
v
er tightened.
Deformation of the gasket is an indication of suffcient
torque. The control and combustion chamber doors ha
v
e
internal seals, replacements must be attached to the
same location.
15.3 Component Removal
First, isolate the heater from the gas and electricity
supply.
Entry to the burner assembly is gained by remo
v
ing the
six door scre
w
s and remo
v
ing the control chamber door.
Entry to the combustion chamber is gained by remo
v
ing
the combustion chamber door.
Cut/Pinch Hazard
Wear protective gear
during installation,
operation and service.
Edges are sharp.
WARNING
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, electric shock, injury or property damage.
Burn Hazard
Allow heater to cool
before service.
Tubing may still be hot
after operation.
Explosion Hazard
Turn off gas supply to
heater before service.
DANGER
Electrical Shock Hazard
Disconnect electric
before service.
More than one
disconnect switch may
be required to
disconnect electric from
heater.
Heater must be
connected to a properly
grounded electrical
source.
