unit traces cables that are terminated to equipment or passing
through splitters or taps, and enables you to trace the current
flowing in terminated or shorted coax cables.
The tester comes with a 20-piece set of coax remote
identifiers (numbered 1 through 20), as well as two 20-piece
numbered wire mapper sets, one for data connections and
another for telephone connections.
For easy communications when testing, the Tri-Porter
comes with a mini-headset that features over-the-ear design
(perfect for use while wearing a hard hat and safety glasses!)
and an adjustable boom microphone. It also has a 4-foot
(1.2-m) cord that has a 2.5-mm cell phone-style plug.
The Tri-Porter main unit offers intuitive controls with
setup and mode selection buttons, a keypad of arrows, and
a recessed rotary knob that you move up and down to select
test functions.
Test results and function menus display clearly on the unit’s
LCD. This backlit transflective screen is easy to read in varying
degrees of light, whether you’re working on a reflective roof
under the sun or in the darkest recesses of your wiring closet.
On the tracer unit, you use arrow buttons to digitally
control volume and a select button to choose testing mode.
The unit operates as both a listen-only POTS phone and a tone
tracer, locating standard generated tone signals as well as dial
tone signals. What’s more, it traces UTP and audio cables, and
offers unique tone tracing capabilities for both live and dark
coax.
Diagnostics include LEDs that indicate voltage presence
and polarity, when it’s operating in phone mode or trace
mode; and when the battery is low.
WARNING: Do not attach the Tri-Porter to primary power lines.
