Modem 34336

MD885A-R4

• In leased-line applications, the Modem 34336 monitors

received carrier level and signal quality.

If performance drops below selected thresholds, the

local modem automatically establishes a dial connection
to the remote modem. Thanks to automatic loopback,
the communication path returns to the leased line when
conditions improve.

• In dialup applications, the Modem 34336 can be pro-

grammed to redial the remote modem automatically.
This is particularly helpful if the dialup line connection
is lost.

• The automatic password protection (APP) feature gives

you transparent security support by incorporating the
password as part of the modem training process. You can
also program the modem to call back the originator during
the APP security process.

• The Modem 34336 supports Analog Loopback (Loop 3),

Analog Loopback Selftest, Analog Loopback Selftest with
Errors, Remote Digital Loopback (Loop 2), and Remote
Digital Loopback Selftest.

Technically Speaking

Fax, too.

As a fax, the Modem 34336 is compatible with Group III,

Class 1 and Class 2 Fax. It supports multiple modulation stan-
dards and speeds for a variety of fax transmissions, including
V.17 at 14.4 and 12 kbps, and 9600 and 7200 bps; V.29 at 9600
and 7200 bps; and more.

Automatic dial backup.

For leased-line applications, the Modem 34336 supports

automatic dial backup. The modem monitors carrier level
and signal quality and, if performance drops below selected
thresholds, automatically establishes a dialup PSTN connec-
tion. Automatic lookback returns the connection to the
leased line when the link is restored.

Front-panel configuration.

Configure the modem using the 2 x 20 character LCD and

six front-panel buttons. You can also use AT commands to
control configuration parameters through the DTE interface.

Diagnostics.

Last but not least, the modem includes V.54 diagnostics

to quickly isolate problems and increase uptime. Test the
modem from the front panel or through the DTE interface.
The modem supports Analog Loopback (Loop 3), Analog
Loopback Selftest, Analog Loopback Selftest with Errors,
Remote Digital Loopback (Loop 2), and Remote Digital
Loopback Selftest. Use the LED display to monitor the DTE
interface as well as transmit and receive on the phone line.
