Reset Button Operation

In the event that your management

agent should lock up, a Reset button is
present on the management board that is
accessible through a hole located near the
serial connector.  By pressing the Reset
button, you will reset the management on
the chassis while allowing media conver-
sion to continue.  To reset the management, take a slender, non-conductive
object (about the width of a paper clip), insert it into the hole of the chassis,
and press the Reset button inside.  Please observe proper ESD procedures
when resetting your chassis.

User Replaceable Fans

Although Black Box provides the highest quality fan assemblies available,

it is possible for these fans to malfunction.  The mechanical nature of these
parts makes them more susceptible to wear and tear, so they often wear out
before the accompanying electronic components.  With this in mind, Black
Box has designed chassis which support modular fans.  This enables the cus-
tomer to replace a faulty fan without having to send an entire unit in for
repair.  Keeping fans functional ensures that the modules will operate within
their temperature specifications.

1) Power down and unplug the chassis.
2) Remove all modules and cables connected to the unit.
3) Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws which fasten the

fan bracket to the chassis.

Assigning TCP/IP Information

To modify the Saved Parameter Values (i.e., assign IP address and sub-

net mask), press

I

.  You will be instructed to enter the IP address and sub-

net mask for the connected device.  Press

Enter

after each.  You may also

assign a default gateway, if desired (press

Enter

to skip).

When finished, press

Enter

, then type “

Reboot

” for changes to take

effect.  The Saved Values and Current Values should now both display the
changes made (e.g., new IP address and subnet mask).

Creating Community Strings

The default community string is named “public” and has read/write

access.  Black Box recommends you set up two communities: one with
read-only access (for general use), the other with read/write access (for the
administrator).  To create a new community string, go to the main config-
uration screen and press

C

.  Enter the name of the new community (up to

16 characters, no spaces) and press

Enter

.  Then type one of the following

to assign the community string’s access rights:

•

R

= read-only access   •

W

= read/write access   •

Enter

= abort

Press

Enter

.

When finished, press

Enter

, then type “

Reboot

” for changes to take

effect.  The Saved Values and Current Values should now both display the
changes made (e.g., new IP address and subnet mask).

N O T E

Because a Delete key is not available on VT-100 terminal emulators,
use the

F2

key instead.

N O T E

You must reboot after making any modifications to the Saved Values
or your changes will not take effect.  To reboot, type the word

Reboot

” (no quote marks) at the prompt on the main configuration

screen, or turn the chassis power OFF then ON again.
