9.3 From EXCOR Active to Ikus
9.3.1 Preparing the Ikus
9.3.2 Replacing the Driving Unit
1. Switch on and configure the Ikus, see the Ikus instructions for use.
2. Transfer the EXCOR Active driving parameters to the Ikus. The following
parameters are transferred (for each supported side in BVAD mode):
• Operating mode
• Cannula sizes
• Size of the blood pump
• Rate
• Driving pressure in systole
• Driving pressure in diastole
• Synchronization type (in BVAD operating mode)
3. Initially, leave the parameter Systolic duration on the Ikus to the default
value of 40%.
4. Position the driving unit on the Ikus so as to allow fast and secure reconnec-
tion of the driving tube(s).
1. Lay the patient on his or her back. Perform the following steps (for each sup-
ported side in BVAD mode):
2. Remove the cable wrap from the driving tube.
3. Disconnect the flow sensor from the cannula and the driving unit. Press

4. Disconnect the tank unit from Ikus.
5. Switch the driving tube from EXCOR Active to Ikus.
6. Check filling and emptying of the blood pump and adjust as needed.
7. EXCOR Active driving unit: Stop blood pump operation. Use the seal plugs to
close the pneumatic connections on EXCOR Active.
8. Allow EXCOR Active to run for a time, in parallel with Ikus. Switching back is
easy to do if necessary. After that, switch off the driving unit, see section 5.6:
Switching Off the Driving Unit, page 50.
