Chapter 3: Installation Procedure
Attaching Conductors From The Inverter
After referring to the electrical drawings to determine which wire to use, connect
ungrounded wires and ground conductors to appropriate points in the inverter.
1. Install the conduit if a cutout is being used.
2. Label each ungrounded wire and equipment ground conductor from the
inverter with a reference number and its polarity.
3. Pull the wires from the inverter to the MDSS.
4. Connect the ungrounded wires to the corresponding disconnect in order by
labeled disconnect number.
5. Strip 1 inch of the insulation from the equipment ground wire.
6. Terminate all equipment ground conductors to the ground terminal block.
Finalizing the Installation
1. With the inverter still turned off, perform a visual inspection of the wire
labels to make sure:
a. All of the input wires are terminated to the proper location on each
disconnect switch.
b. The output wires are terminated to the proper location on each
disconnect switch.
c. The ground wires are terminated to the ground busbar.
2. Replace all plastic shields over the connectors, if applicable.
3. If a dead front is used, lock the dead front and set the disconnect handles to
the On position; install locks or tags.
4. Close and latch the enclosure handle.
5. If the disconnect handles are on the outside door, set the disconnect handles
to the On position; install locks or tags.
6. Padlock the enclosure handle to insure only qualified personnel have access
to the units.
7. Start up the system per the inverter manufacturer’s instructions.
