Chapter 3: Installation Procedure
Connecting Conductors from Source Circuits
Verify that the inverter is off.
Source circuits refer to output from PV arrays through the combiner and
optionally the recombiner to the MDSS.
1. Label each wire from the source circuit with a reference number and its
polarity.
2. Run all ungrounded wires and the equipment ground conductor into the
MDSS enclosure through the selected entry points. Grounded conductors
should pass through the MDSS.
3. Strip 1 inch of the insulation from all the wires.
4. Terminate all ungrounded wires on the corresponding disconnect input in
order by labeled disconnect. If there are fewer connections to be made than
there are disconnects in the unit, populate the lower disconnect numbers
first.
In the double-stack disconnect models (
), the
disconnects are numbered with 1 at the top and in the front. Number 2 is
located underneath Number 1. Its input and output are at the bottom of the
disconnect unit. Disconnects 3 and 4 are below 1 and 2.
In the dual-column models (
), Number 1 is at the top of
the left column, Number 2 is at the top right column, and the disconnects
continue to alternate from left to right.
In the single-column models (
), the lowest number is at
the top and the highest number is at the bottom of the column.
NOTE
Use of a corrosion inhibitor is recommended at the point of connection
between conductors and terminals. This ensures reliability over the lifetime
of the equipment.
5. Terminate all ground conductors to the ground terminal block.
6. Run and terminate all grounded wires into the inverter. Ungrounded wires
can either run through the MDSS or bypass the MDSS.
