Replacing an LPM

Caution
Any circuits running through the LPM are interrupted when it is removed,
which can result in data loss. Lucent Technologies recommends setting the associated
LIM’s administrative status to Down before removing the LPM from the unit. For
instructions on changing a LIM’s state to Down and then back to Up, see the
Stinger
Administration Guide
.
To replace an LPM:

Put on the antistatic wrist strap, as recommended in “Preventing static discharge
damage” on page 1-4, and plug it into an ESD grounding jack located on the
front or back of the unit. (See Figure 1-5 on page 1-7 and Figure 1-7 on
page 1-10.)

Carefully unhook the cable ties securing the connectors and cables to the card
and remove all connectors and cables.

Using a number 2 Phillips screwdriver, loosen the left and right thumbscrews
attaching the module to the unit, as shown in Figure 6-3.

Lift the left and right card ejectors simultaneously to disengage the module from
the midplane connectors. Lift both ejectors simultaneously to avoid damage to
the module.

Carefully slide the LPM out of the unit and place it into an antistatic container.

Align the new or replacement LPM with the card guides and carefully slide the
module into the unit. Press firmly to be sure it has engaged the midplane
connectors.

Depress the ejectors simultaneously.
