Filing Cutter Depth Gauges
The cutter depth gauge clearance is reduced as cutters are sharpened. After every second or third sharpening,
reset the cutter depth gauges.
1. Place the depth gauge tool (.025") firmly across the top of the two cutters. Make sure that the depth gauge
enters the slot in the depth gauge tool (see image below).
2. Use a medium flat file. File the depth gauge level with a depth gauge tool.
3. Remove the depth gauge tool. With a flat file, round off the front corner of the cutter depth gauge (see image
below).

After several hand filings, have an authorised service or sharpening centre machine-sharpen the chain. This will
ensure an even filing.
