Maximum Allowed Lens Thread Length

The C-mount lens mount on all cameras is normally equipped with a plastic filter holder. As shown 
in Figure 6, the length of the threads on any lens you use with the camera can be a maximum of 
9.6 mm, and the lens can intrude into the camera body a maximum of 10.8 mm. If either of these 
limits is exceeded, the lens mount or the filter holder will be damaged or destroyed and the camera 
will no longer operate properly.       

Note that on color cameras, the filter holder will be populated with an IR-cut filter. On monochrome 
cameras, the filter holder will be present, but will not be populated with a filter.
