The 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Kiev on Saturday, May 21st, showcased
some of Barco’s latest LED and projection technologies. From the brand-new OLite 510 display
to the XLM H25 and SLM R12+ projectors, the spectacular stage design of the show attested
to Barco’s technology leadership in the international events industry.

When the lights went down and the stage lighted up for the final of this Song Contest, an
estimated 400 million viewers world wide saw a spectacular stage featuring 86 tiles of
Barco’s brand new OLite 510 LED display technology.

This new SMD LED display technology combines the benefits of indoor and outdoor LED in
one reliable, robust tile built specifically for the Rental & Staging industry. On top of this,
Barco’s OLite 510 is the first LED tile fully capable for dual usage, i.e. creative display
solutions next to standard high-resolution Image Magnification. For the creative display
applications, a tile can be divided into 64 separate, independent modules enabling to build
displays of any shape.

Eurovision Project Manager, Ola Melzig of Spectra Stage & Events Technologies comments:
“Eurovision Song Contest is a complex project which requires the dedication and commitment
of many parties to make it happen. Working with industry professionals like Barco and
Massteknik makes the process a lot easier. We are very happy with the end result. This will
be the most spectacular and technical advanced Eurovision Song Contest ever!”

Massteknik CEO Kenneth Paterson adds: “Massteknik is proud to be the chosen visualization
equipment supplier to Eurovision Song Contest. This is a major project that required a huge
amount of equipment. Our substantial rental fleet enabled us to deliver what the client
required.”
