6.1 Startup
DANGER
Uncontrolled system movement
When starting up, if the sensor is part of a closed loop
system whose parameters have not yet been set, the
system may perform uncontrolled movements. This
could result in personal injury and equipment damage.

Persons must keep away from the system’s
hazardous zones.
►
Startup must be performed only by trained technical
personnel.
►
Observe the safety instructions of the equipment or
system manufacturer.
1.
Connect power supply and sensor to gateway.
2. Switch on gateway.
3. Start the login process in the software (see instructions
for the visualization software).
6.2 Operating notes
Location of use
The signal strength depends on the location of use of the
gateway and various interference factors (e.g., a lot of steel
in large warehouses).

Place the gateway in a different location if the
connection is weak or disconnections occur.
Mains or battery operation
The gateway can be operated both with a 24 V power
supply unit and with the built-in rechargeable batteries for
up to about 48 hours. For battery operation, the batteries
must first be charged.

Connect the power supply unit to the gateway via the
M12 plug.
⇒ The gateway can be operated with the power
supply. The batteries are charged at the same time.
Tips to increase battery life:
In battery mode, the configured transmission
interval has a significant effect on the energy
supply.

Increase the value of the transmission interval
to operate the gateway in battery mode for a
longer period of time.
Adjust the operating times of the gateway
according to the desired monitoring period e.g.
by basing them on the production times of the
plant or on manufacturing cycles.

In the software, set the desired days and
hours when the gateway should be active.
Much more battery power is required in the case
of weak signals, disconnections or radio
connections outside of LTE (e.g. 2G).

Place the gateway in a different position if
these problems occur or use a wired power
supply if necessary.
The batteries are defective or the capacity has
decreased to such an extent that they must be
replaced. This can happen due to heavy load on
the batteries or due to deep discharge (the
battery voltage was at 0 V for an extended longer
period of time).

Contact Balluff Service to have the batteries
replaced.
6.3 Maintenance
The product is maintenance-free.
