Motor Brushes

Replacing the Fuse

1. After 100 hours of use, check the

condition of the motor brushes by

unscrewing each access port cap in

turn, see fig 21.

DISCONNECT THE

LATHE FROM THE

MAINS SUPPLY!

NOTE: Take careful note of the

orientation of the brushes,

remember that they have bedded

themselves to the profile of the

commutator in that position. If

you fit them reversed, it can cause

excessive sparking and heat until

they have re-bedded themselves.

2. Remove the motor carbon

brushes and check their condition,

see fig 22.

3. If they are in good condition with

plenty of carbon left on the brush,

re-fit. If they are worn down to the

half way mark (7.5mm) we advise

replacing with new brushes, see

fig 23.

IMPORTANT: If they wear beyond

this mark the motor’s commutator

could get damaged.

4. Replace the access port cap

screws, connect to mains supply

and run the machine off load for

approximately twenty minutes to

bed the new brushes in.

Remove the motor brush and

check its condition

Replace the motor brush if

worn down to the ‘Mark’

To the rear of the control box there

is a 5A fuse. If the fuse has blown,

unscrew the holder and replace with

a new ( F5AL250V ) fuse as shown in

fig 24-25.

NOTE: The most common cause for

the fuse to blow is the motor being

overloaded!
