Introduction and Default Settings
This quick start guide will show how to connect the target board to a host PC, install the correct version of Code-
Warrior Development Studio, and execute a simple demonstration program loaded in FLASH memory.
Install CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire v7.1, Special Edition
The M52259DEMOKIT board ships with CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures, a complete
Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that provides a highly visual and automated framework to accelerate
the development of the most complex embedded applications. To install the IDE, refer to the “CodeWarrior De-
velopment Studio” DVD case and follow the steps in the included Quick Start Guide.
CodeWarrior Development Studios for Microcontrollers
must be properly installed before attempting to connect
the target board to the host PC. Otherwise, the necessary USB drivers will not be available and the host PC will
not recognize the board.
To Launch the Demo Program:
The M52259DEMOKIT ships with a bootloader preloaded into on-chip FLASH memory. On power-up, the demo
application causes LED4 to flash at approx 1Hz.
1. Connect the included 6-in-1 USB cable between an open USB port on the host PC and the mini-USB con-
nector at J3 on the target board. This will power the target.
2. Notice LED1, LED2, and LED3 turn on solid. LED4 begins to blink in an alternating pattern. This pattern re-
peats until power is removed.
3. Press SW1 while pressing and releasig the RESET switch. This will cause a removable disk to load under
Windows
4. Open My Computer. Under
Devices with Removable Storage
, notice a new Removable Disk (<drive:>) has
loaded.
5. Open the removable disk and find the file READY.TXT. This file will have 0 bytes.
6. To flash new application code to the target, simply drag and drop the required object file to the removable
drive.
To Load a New Demo Program:
1. Unzip the application file MCF5225x Bootloader_1.1.zip found in the Axiom\M51159DEMO directory of the
Axiom Support CD.
2. Navigate to the directory where the zip file decompressed. Locate the application directory at
<path>\MCF5225x Bootloader_1.1\MCF5225x Bootloader_1.1\Bootloader USB
MSD\MCF5225x_Bootloader_with_Application\obj.
