2.11.4 SNMPv3 Users
As mentioned earlier, SNMP V3 is a more secure SNMP protocol. In this part, the users will be able to set a
password and an encryption key to enhance the data security. When choosing this option, the users can configure
SNMP V3
’s authentication and encryption. MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5) is used for authentication password
and DES (Data Encryption Standard) is used for data encryption algorithm. Figure 2.102
shows the SNMP V3
User
’s authentication setting options. The user can view existing SNMP V3 user’s setting on the upper table where
it provides information about user name, authentication type, and data encryption. The user has an option to remove
existing SNMP V3 user by clicking on the
Remove
button in the last column of each entry. To add a new SNMP
V3 user, the users have to select the user
Name
from the dropdown list which can be either
Admin
or
User
. Then,
the authentication password with a maximum length of 31 characters has to be entered in the
Auth
. Password
field and re
-entered again in the
Confirmed Password
field. Note that if no password is provided, there will be no
authentication for SNMP V3. Finally, the encryption key with a maximum length of 31 characters can be entered in
the
Encryption Key
and re
-entered again in
Confirmed Key
field. After filling all the required fields, please click
on
Add
button to update the information on the managed switch. Table 2.32
lists the descriptions of SNMP V3
settings.
