Your choice of fabric will also depend on the task at hand and the physical characteristics of the user.

Using a soft, flexible measuring tape, record the measurements
suggested below:

For
men and children
this is the circumference of the
chest, as measured just under the arms (or the widest
point).
For
women
, this is the distance around the hips (or the
widest point). Measurements may be taken with the
patient lying down or in a seated position.

To achieve the most accurate measurement, this is
best carried out with the patient lying on a flat surface.
