CHP Max Element Management Modules CHP-CMM, CMM-1, SMM, and SMM-1

You may connect a PC without an Ethernet connector to CMM-1s and SMM-1s via a PCs USB
port, as described below.
1. Use CMS/GUI version 7.0.34 or later on the PC.
2. Obtain a USB-to-serial adapter cable (for example, Belkin USB to Serial F5U109
Cable).
3. Download the USB-to-serial adapter cable driver(s) from website of adapter
manufacturer for the PC's operating system.
4. Install the driver(s).
5. Run CMS/GUI and from the CMS/GUI menu, select
Communications > Configure

6. When the Configure Comm. window appears, configure the serial port parameters,
as shown in Figure 6.6, then click on the
OK
button.

Note
When using Windows 7, a Windows 7 compliant USB to serial converter is
required to connect to the CHP platform using CMM-1 and SMM-1 controllers. If the
USB to serial converter being used does not have a FTDI chipset and is not Windows
32-bit and 64-bit compliant, a successful connection to a CHP Shelf using the CHP
GUI program will not be possible.
Note
ARRIS recommends using the Belkin USB to Serial F5U109 Cable because it has
been thoroughly tested and known to function as required. Other cables may or
may not function as well.
