1. GENERAL INFORMATION
This manual supports models with different connectors and power specifications. Refer to the model
specification sheet to determine the applicable features of this unit.
1.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation (AR) Model ATH800M6G High-Gain Horn Antenna is a complete,
self-contained unit that is well-suited for either shielded room or free-space radiated emissions or radiated
susceptibility testing over a frequency range of 0.8–6.0 GHz. The Model ATH800M6G has a power-handling
capability of 1500 watts (W) with a minimum gain of 11dBi at 0.8 GHz, typically increasing more than 22dBi
at 6.0 GHz.
This versatile antenna works equally well as a radiator for Radio Frequency (RF) susceptibility testing or as a
receiving antenna for RF emissions testing.
1.2 SPECIFICATIONS
Refer to the AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation data sheet at the end of this section for detailed
specifications, including Voltage Standing-Wave Ratio (VSWR), for the Model ATH800M6G.
1.3 PERFORMANCE DATA
VSWR versus Frequency data and E-Plane and H-Plane Radiation Patterns at various operating frequencies
for the Model ATH800M6G are included in Section 2 of this manual.
1.4 INSTALLATION
Before installing the antenna, thoroughly inspect the unit for signs of any physical damage that may have
occurred during shipment. Read the following operating instructions in their entirety, and pay particular
attention to all
CAUTION
notes.
1.4.1
Power Amplifier Selection
When used in a shielded room, reflections and room losses will reduce the available microwave (MW) field.
AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation recommends a design safety factor of 100% when selecting a microwave
power amplifier. Optimum performance will be achieved when the Model ATH800M6G High-Gain Horn
Antenna is used with a broadband microwave power amplifier, such as the S-Series amplifiers available from
AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation.
