WARNING

REAR DRUM BRAKE

100

The brakes are the parts that most en-
sure your safety and for this reason they
must always be perfectly working; check
them before every trip.

For any doubt regarding the perfect func-
tioning of the braking system and in case
you are not able to carry out the usual
checking operations, contact your

aprilia

 Official Dealer.

ADJUSTING THE BRAKE

Check the stroke of the lever before it starts
the braking action. The idle stroke at the
brake lever end must be around 10 mm.

To adjust the play:

act on register (1).

Actuate the brake repeatedly and check
that the wheel is turning freely after releas-
ing the brake.

Check the braking efficiency.

If register (1) can be screwed completely,
the shoes may be worn out; in this case,
go to page 62 (CHECKING THE SHOES
WEAR).

NOTE

 The brake shoes heating, caused

by the braking action, may modify the play
between the friction material and the drum,
and for this reason we suggest the play be
checked also with shoes at operative tem-
perature.

Perform a test drive by actuating the rear
brake two or three times.

Perform the check with the engine off.

Park the vehicle, see page 45 (PARKING).

Check that the wheel turns freely.

If necessary:

When the engine is hot, be careful not to
burn yourself while performing the follow-
ing operations.

Unloose register (1), check that the wheel
turns freely.
