Quick Start Guide

AutoPatch AF-10 Accessory Card Frame

Overview

The AF-10 is an accessory card frame system specifically built for adding accessory
boards to expand a system's capabilities. The card frame holds up to sixteen plug-in
accessory boards. Some of the AutoPatch accessory modules
(e.g., S-Video Distribution Amplifier Modules) are also available as plug-in accessory
boards. This guide contains complete information for the AF-10.

Specifications

Installation

Rack Mounting

The AF-10 ships with rack ears attached and is designed to fit a standard EIA 19 in.
(48.26 cm) rack.

Tip

:

It is often easier to install the top card frame (or enclosure) first and move down

from there.

To rack mount an AF-10:

1.

Install the AF-10 in a rack leaving a minimum of one empty rack unit above and
below (required); three empty rack units are recommended.

2.

Secure the AF-10 to the rack with front-mounting screws.

Attaching Input & Output Cables/Wires

Attach cables/wires to the connectors on the rear of the card frame according to the
instructions in the documentation for the specific accessory boards.

Applying Power

Important

:

For multiple AF-10 enclosures – We recommend attaching all power cords

from all enclosures to a single surge protector and/or AC line conditioner.

To apply power to the AF-10:

1.

Plug the power cord(s) to the card frame(s) and plug into power source(s). Turn
on power source(s) if necessary.
The Power Indicator on the front of the AF-10 illuminates.

2.

Apply power to the source and destination devices.

Installing Accessory Boards

Accessory boards ordered with the AF-10 will be installed before shipping.
When adding accessory boards after initial installation, be sure to read the board’s
documentation for any specific installation instructions. Some boards must be placed
in adjoining slot pairs for correct signal distribution. In addition, you may need to adjust
the board to compensate for the length of the cable, if the length does not match the
length specified for the factory default setting. Make any adjustments before adding
the board to the AF-10.

ESD Warning

Avoid ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) damage to sensitive

components; be sure you and the equipment are properly grounded before
touching any internal materials.

To install accessory boards:

1.

Unplug the card frame.

2.

Remove the plate that covers the empty board expansion slot. (Save the plate
and screws for reuse).

3.

Line up the accessory board with the board guides on the top and bottom of the
board slot. With the board extractor handle in the down position, carefully push
the board firmly into the slot. When the board is almost in, the extractor handle
will start to lift. At this point, flip the extractor handle up to snap the board into
place.
