AMI’s experience in the storage and server market converged in
designing a series of backplane controllers designed to minimize board space
utilization and maximize functionality and configurability. Equipped with
internal oscillator, temperature sensor and flash, AMI’s MG9073S backplane
controller for SAS/SATA backplanes provides a cost effective solution that
takes minimal board space, measuring only 9x9mm. Exceptionally flexible,
the chip can be utilized in a variety of designs and configurations for
applications from entry-level to mission-critical.
AMI’s MegaRAC MG9073S is
compatible with SAS/SATA Host
Bus Adapters from all major
storage vendors and supports
Serial GPIO, the latest and most
advanced
industry
standard
for connection to the Host Bus
Adapter (HBA).
Each MG9073S device has two
SGPIO ports for connection to the
SAS HBA. Those ports support
LED management and detect
drive presence for up to 8 drives.

flash or EEprom. Depending
from design and configuration, a
solution featuring MG9073S can
yield a significant reduction in
cost.
Multiple MG9073S can be
cascaded on the same SGPIO bus
to support up to 32 drives. AMI
MegaRAC is PIN-configurable for
16 different configurations. Several
reference configuration designs are
available from AMI - others can be
designed. Hardware and software
development tools are available to
support easy integration of MG9073S
in server and storage projects.
