1.4 Power Wiring
The RBE2-8 accepts 24 Vdc ±10% as its input power. Minimum current draw occurs when all of the outputs
are off. The minimum current draw is 0.125 A @ 24 Vdc, which is 3 watts. The maximum current draw
occurs when all of the relays are on. If you installation uses one of the suggested relays shown on page 11,
then the maximum current draw is 0.30 A @ 24Vdc, which is 7.3 watts.
The connector accepts 30 to 10 AWG wire. Choose your wire size based on current draw and local safety
codes.
The power connector is located on the left side of the unit. Power connections should be tight, as loose con-
nections may lead to arcing which will heat the connector. Phoenix Contact specifies a tightening torque of
4.4 to 5.4 lb-in (0.5 to 0.6 Nm).
The power supply is connected to the pins marked “+24V” and “GND”. The “CHASSIS GND” pin is used to
attach the aluminum frame of the RBE2-8 to earth ground. The use of a 12 AWG, stranded wire for the earth
ground connection is strongly recommended.
A strip length of up to 0.4 inches (10 mm) is acceptable for the power connector. Neat wiring
is important to prevent the wires from shorting against each other or the grounded aluminum
frame of the RBE2-8.

Grounding Strap maybe required by local safety codes.
Strap can be attached without the concern of forming a
ground loop between the supply and RBE2-8 because the
negative side (–) of the units' power input is isolated
from the chassis ground connection.
Required Functional
Grounding Connection.
A 12 AWG, stranded wire must
be used to connect the RBE2-8
to the system’s ground bus.
