Output Module Features

Chapter 4

Field Power Loss Detection

The Field Power Loss Detection feature monitors for the loss of field power,
that is, power on an SA power bus.

When power is lost from an SA power bus, Compact 5000 I/O digital modules
that draw power from that SA power bus detect the loss of field power and
fault. As a result, fault data is sent to the controller.

Keep in mind that all points on the module fault when a field power is lost.

The following Compact 5000 I/O digital output modules support Field Power
Loss Detection:

• 5069-OA16

• 5069-OB8

• 5069-OW16

• 5069-OBV8S

• 5069-OBV8SK

The 5069-OB8, 5069-OBV8S, and 5069-OBV8SK modules receive field-side
power via LA power terminals on the module. These modules do not draw
current from the SA power bus.

The description of Field Power Loss Detection in this section applies to the
5069-OB8, 5069-OBV8S, and 5069-OBV8SK modules. The difference is that
when field-side power is lost on the 5069-OB8, 5069-OBV8S, and
5069-OBV8SK modules, it is lost from the LA terminals.
