Akasa Venom Voodoo CPU Cooler

Version 05/12

Item no. 91 89 15

Intended use

1.

This product is used for cooling the CPU on the mainboard of a computer. Operating heat is dissipated via a

heat sink which is air-cooled by two high-performance fans for supply and exhaust air. The product is suitable

for cooling processors with Intel sockets (LGA775, LGA1155, LGA1156, LGA1366, LGA2011) or AMD sockets

(AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1). The PWM function ensures quiet operation.

For safety and approval purposes (CE), you must not rebuild and/or modify this product. If you use the product

for purposes other than those described above, the product may be damaged. In addition, improper use can

cause hazards such as short circuiting, fire, electric shock etc. Read the instructions carefully and keep them.

Make this product available to third parties only together with its operating instructions.

Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.

Persons / Product

If the heat-conductive paste come into contact with skin, wipe it off with a dry cloth and then clean the area

•

thoroughly with warm water and soap. In case the heat-conductive paste contacts with the eye, flood the

affected eye immediately with warm water. Then consult a doctor immediately.

When replacing cooling element, do not use the old thermal paste. Remove all remnants of the old thermal

•

paste. Apply new thermal paste/ pad before reinstalling another cooling element.

Only a thin and evenly distributed layer of thermal paste should be placed between the processor and the

•

cooler.

Never operate the product without heat-conductive paste between the processor and cooler!

•

Never place any object between the processor and the cooler! Due to the greater displacement in between

•

will decrease cooling effect; the processor will overheat and be permanently damaged.

Never reach into the rotating fan as this poses a serious risk of injury! Do not interfere with the proper

•

functioning of the fan (for example, by inserting external objects).

Make sure that no cables etc. can get into the fan. Use cable fasteners, for example.

•

The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

•

Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may become dangerous playing material

•

for children.

Protect  the  product  from  extreme  temperatures,  direct  sunlight,  strong  jolts,  high  humidity,  moisture,

•

flammable gases, vapours and solvents.

Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.

•

If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any

•

accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:

is visibly damaged,

 -

is no longer working properly,

 -

has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or

 -

has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.

 -

Please  handle  the  product  carefully.  Jolts,  impacts  or  a  fall  even  from  a  low  height  can  damage  the

•

product.

Also  observe  the  safety  and  operating  instructions  of  any  other  devices  which  are  connected  to  the

•

product.

Miscellaneous

Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the device.

•

Maintenance, modifications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an expert or at a qualified

•

shop.

If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions, contact our technical

•

support service or other technical personnel.

Installation

4.

Before installing the CPU cooling element, make sure to turn off the computer, switch off

the main switch on the back of the power supply unit and unplug the mains plug. Since

voltage is present even when the computer is switched off, there is a risk of electric shock

when touching electric components inside.

Installation slightly differs depending on whether the fan is installed to replace an existing ”old“ fan, or if you

want to assemble a new computer.

Removing existing CPU cooler

Ground yourself with a grounding mat or anti-static wristbands to prevent electrical static discharge (ESD)

1.

from your body and clothes during installation. Integrated circuits are sensitive to electrical static. They can

be damaged or destroyed if ESD occurred.

Open the computer housing, remove the motherboard and extract the old CPU cooler carefully.

2.

Remove any remaining heat-conductive paste or heat-conductive foil completely from the surface of the CPU.

3.

For this, use a soft object only and be very cautious as otherwise the CPU may be permanently damaged!

Mounting / New Installation

Note the manufacturer’s detailed installation instructions.

Completion

Connect the two 4-pin connectors of the fans with the PWM adaptor.

1.

Connect  the  4-pin  plug  to  the  CPU  fan  connection  on  the  motherboard.  For  the  exact  position  of  the

2.

connection, please refer to the operating instructions for the motherboard. The connection may be labelled

“CPUFAN1” or similar.

Secure all cables by means of one or several cable ties so that they cannot become entangled in one of

3.

the computer’s fans.

Install the motherboard in the computer housing. Do not hold the motherboard by the CPU cooler.

4.

Close the computer housing again and connect the computer to the mains supply.

5.

Refer to your mainboard’s operating instructions to set up the PWM function of the fan.

Tips and hints

5.

If you do not possess expertise for installing this cooler, leave the task of assembly to a trained technician,

•

or technical workshop. This will be cheaper than damaged or destroyed components of your motherboard!

If the cooler may have to be removed at any point, heat sink and chip must be properly cleansed of all

•

residual heat-conductive paste before reinstallation.

Due to the electric conductivity of special heat-conductive pastes, the motherboard could be short-circuited

•

if any of the paste were to come into contact with the motherboard, or the contacts of sockets! Respective

components may be destroyed!

The heat-conductive thermal compound paste is only suitable for single usage! To remount the cooler

•

again, please use a suitable heat-conductive paste and apply it to the topside of the chip (a layer of approx.

0.1 – 0.2 mm thickness is sufficient).

Disposal

6.

Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.

At  the  end  of  its  service  life,  dispose  of  the  product  according  to  the  relevant  statutory

regulations.
