Matching springer tug RAMBORATOR
Order No. 3048/00

Springer Tugs are self-propelled vessels employed on American rivers for transport duties and manoeuvring tasks; they are very
simple and quick to construct. In model form they are also very simple, and since they can be built quickly, Springer Tug matches
with these models rapidly developed in England and America. Simple rules have been drawn up, but they only aim to ensure even
racing, so they involve the hull, power system and rudder only. A few years ago this wave found its way over to Germany. Skill-
testing courses can be set up for these models, but “team water polo” can also be played. For this reason the boats' equipment is
deliberately kept simple. Our model complies with these rules, and can be completed, ready for the water, in just a few hours. A
fittings set is included as standard, making it easy to produce a visually attractive semi-scale model. The kit contains: all the plywood
parts required to build the model, with locating tabs and slots. The kit also includes strip material, shaft and rudder as well as the
fittings set. The full-colour building instructions feature many stage drawings.

Guide rod 73

Scale 1:1

Screw the guide rod 73 to the coupling box cover 60 / 61 using the
plate 74 and the screws 75.

Glue a piece of rubber rubbing strake or similar material (around 9 x
9 mm, not included) to each thrust dolphin to act as spacers. Seal
the hatches over the bow thruster and the battery compartment
using Fixogum or contact cement before fitting the retaining screws
75.

In its empty state the Ramboline draws about 1 cm, which means
that the bow thruster is not then in the water; however, it is not
required for steering the empty barge. If a payload is placed in the
Ramboline, the bow thruster is submerged, and can then be used
as a steering aid.
Any water which gets inside the barge and onto the carriageway
deck up to a depth of about 1.5 cm is not dangerous. It will
automatically run out under the bow flap when the Ramboline is
“unloaded”.
For that reason the gap under the bow flap should not be sealed.
