4.5.3 Recirculator Pump Mechanical Installation
A field supplied pump relay must be installed if the pump current draw is greater than 2.5 amps.
This is included with the larger pumps from AERCO.
If the 6-1/2” length pump (

) is selected, it is installed between the flanges indicated in Figure 4-
3 using the longer pipe/flange fitting (
D
) for this shorter pump. If the 8-1/2” length pump (
A
) is
selected, the shorter pipe/flange (
B
) is used for this longer pump. Gaskets (
E
) are also installed
at pump connections.

4.5.4 Recirculator Pump Electrical Connections
The recirculator pump electrical connections are accessed and wired as follows:

1) Remove the unit top cover by pulling up, than access inside of electrical junction box by
removing screw at rear top of junction box cover and lifting up, as shown in Figure 4-4.

2) Use a three conductor cable (minimum cross section of #18 AWG) and run out of the power
box conduit opening and between the water heater terminals and the recirculation pump.
3) Locate the left-side set of 120 VAC power terminals, as shown in Figure 4-4 or 5-2, and
connect the cable leads to terminals

, and then wire the other end of
the cable to the pump per the manufacturer’s instructions.
4) If pump current draw is greater than 2.5A, a pump relay must be installed. This is included
with the larger pumps from AERCO.
